Let Peter McGuinn help you apply for your home loan.

When purchasing a home, applying for the mortgage loan is exasperating for many people, but it doesn't have to be. I have close business relationships with a lot of mortgage lenders, and they've helped me realize a few things that make the process of applying for a loan easy.

1 – Organize a list of questions about your loan program

If you find that you do not perfectly understand the ins and outs of the various financing options, make sure you have a list of questions with you. It can be a challenge understanding the differences between both fixed and adjustable rate mortgages. I or one of my trusted lenders will be able to help you understand the advantages and disadvantages of each program.

2 – Determine when you want to lock

Locking in the interest rate signifies that a mortgage lender keeps to the interest rates for the loan – generally at the time the loan application is submitted. By floating the rate, you can lock the rate anytime between the day you apply for the loan and closing. Those who elect to float believe the interest rates will fall in the near future. Click here to see the outlook for the next 90 days of interest rates.

3 – Determine if you want to pay additional points to lower your rate

If you decide to pay additional points to lower the interest rate of your mortgage loan, you will pay for them in cash at closing. Every point is 1 percent of the loan. Click here to use our points calculator. It will assist you with deciding if purchasing points is right for you.

4 – Compile your paperwork

Acquiring a mortgage loan requires a lot of paperwork, so you should spend some time getting all your documentation together. Click here to see normal questions you'll have to answer on a loan app.
